  Over the space of 24 hours my 9 week old iPhone 6S transformed itself from a fantastic piece of 21st century technology into a lifeless black brick. If this had been almost any other consumer article replacement or refund would have been immediate and automatic. With Apple it took a one hour online session with someone from Poland in Ireland(?), an offer of a battery replacement in 2 to 5 weeks, then an offer of an appointment in Watford nearly a week away at a time I couldn’t make. Finally I just decided to rock up at the Apple store and go up to the Customer services desk for a refund / replacement. First problem - the store has no Customer services desk. In fact it doesn’t resemble a store at all. It is just a lot of tables sprinkled in pretty patterns with about 20 Apple staff wandering around chatting, mainly to each other. After a bit I identified one who prodded away at an iPad and told me I could be seen at 10:10. Then 10:50. Then 10:20. I think he expected me to be grateful. After a few tests my iPhone was duly declared dead and a replacement authorised. Great I thought, we’re getting somewhere. Just log in with your Apple ID... Back to the car. Drive home. Get Apple ID. Back to Watford. Park. Back to store. Find Carl again. Get new phone. Sign off a 100 page terms and conditions document having been given the usual 5 seconds to read it. Pay second lot of parking charges. Drive home. The sad thing is that they probably thought I was a happy satisfied customer.
